From my experience there are significant requirements for Interpersonal, Work Place and Commercial mediation and the following are examples of situations when mediation is the most useful dispute resolution process. Disputes between co-workers or colleagues who are unable to function together Inter-departmental squabbles Long standing ‘personality clashes’ or problems with working relationships Communication breakdowns Planning deadlocks Negotiations concerning role definitions in a team Conflicts over allocation of tasks Conflicts where there is a history of bad feeling Conflicts over aims and objectives Any of the above examples can occur at any level from Board to Shop Floor and in addition there are the potential Commercial disputes exemplified by Purchaser-supplier disputes Contractual issues
