About me

Are you considering counselling? I am a professional, BACP (British association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) registered Person-Centered Counsellor. As an experienced Person-Centered therapist I work with a set of skills and attitudes that honor the uniqueness and autonomy of each client. Rather than offering treatment programs based on diagnostic labels, I work in a way that responds to an individuals personal experiencing of their world and the meanings it holds for them. At the core of this way of working lies the belief that each person knows within himself or herself what is required for their own development and self-actualization, though our life circumstances and conditioning often conspire to throw us off balance and tie us in knots, resulting in us not being able to trust and rely on our own inner resources. This can leave us feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed in other ways, negatively affecting our quality of life and ability to manage well in our personal circumstances. Person-Centered Therapy is an effective way of beginning to untangle these knots and move towards becoming more fulfilled, self-directed and independent individuals. The therapeutic space I provide is a safe and confidential environment that facilitates self-exploration and allows the client to express themselves more openly, more fully and more deeply as the counselling process progresses. It is a process of discovery and personal insight, which may often be challenging as we confront aspects of our lives that we find difficult and distressing. Ultimately, as we begin to understand our moods and motivations more clearly, beginning to integrate new insights and new aspects of ourselves into our personality, we begin the process of moving towards greater self-compassion, self-acceptance and healing. As part of my continuing professional development I have recently begun to expand my practice into offering counselling services online, and am working towards certification as a qualified online therapist through the Online Therapy Institute (OTI).
